As a child of the ’80s, there was nothing more exhilarating than space opera, a hero’s journey, and video games. The Last Starfighter had it all and was so gloriously…

I know it’s too soon to call it a breakaway hit, but Helix had a very strong start last week and promises to be one of my new favorite shows this year. The show has everything a classic thriller should: plausible isolation, an overtly devious lead scientist, a shadowy corporate interest, inter-personal drama that isn’t too distracting, and well-timed comic relief. What impressed me the most is that even the side character’s actions are believable and serve the narrative instead of creating confusing story tangents.
It’s Andromeda Strain meets Outbreak with a dash of Fringe and CSI, which is fine by me. I would highly recommend checking this show out, and soon as episode three premiers this Friday.
